History of Iceberg Water - the Cold Rush
For over 30 years, Iceberg Water has been received by many visitors and local Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. The purest water on the planet
provides a refreshing drink of water with its unique crisp taste of freshness that you can't find anywhere else. The harvesting of iceberg water is a science in itself.
During the Spring time of the year, Iceberg Alley (the channel from northern Labrador to the Grand Banks of NL) becomes a haven for fish of all sizes as they gravitate towards the icy cool waters from the south to feed, spawn and play. The plentiful icebergs also allow a home for the nomadic seals as they look for a resting place from the ocean to have their pups. The iceberg itself is an organism with plenty of life for thousands of sea birds as well. Finding the right iceberg for the purest drinking water is the task at hand each harvesting season.
Using a grapple, this giant robotic arm chips away at the iceberg, freeing the melting ice and transfers it to the vessel. The large sea going vessel houses 6 tanks that can hold 220,000 litres of water each making for over a million litres of water harvested each year. The 2024 harvest came from a 15,000 year old iceberg just off the coast of NL and the Iceberg Cowboys ensure the harvest is tested for purity, date and pollutants. The ice is then shipped to local distributors, such as Iceberg Vodka, Iceberg Beer and other micro breweries within NL. Bottled as single serving units is the most accessible way to find your iceberg water, as individuals look for that something special to take home as a souvenir from the most easterly point in North America, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Over the years several documentaries have been created to show the process of harvesting iceberg water. From Australia, to France, Japan and China, individuals all over the world are in awe of not only the process and the beauty of our icebergs but the pure tasting freshness as well.
As the world climate value of water becomes every more precious especially for advocating less wastage, Iceberg Water itself is a company that adheres to ensuring this valuable commodity is respected so that we can continue to have this bountiful harvest each year.
2025 harvest season will begin in the Spring and as business continues to grow and the ice melts away, what better way to preserve this wonderful freshness than to serve it up to your guests, or customers? To taste fresh water older than the industrial revolution that has never been exposed to the pollutants we find today, this precious water is a gift.
